Coming from a cold village and then moving to the also cold Dragon Rider headquarters, Alek wisely generally chooses to dress for the weather of the area. Thick wool and cotton, along with heavy leathers are common, and it's rare to see her not wearing some sort of boots. NOW WE'RE GETTING NOSY. TELL ME ABOUT YOUR FAMILY.
Aleksandrya had a fairly normal family - her father was a butcher, her mother a noted seamstress, though she mostly worked out of their family home. The second born of a rather large family (she had around seven siblings), it was immediately clear that if Aleks wanted any sort of decent life, she would have to make it for herself.
Hesitant at first, her parents have come to accept her profession.
SOUNDS INTERESTING. OKAY. NOW, JUST TELL ME EVERYTHING ABOUT YOUR PAST.
It would be easy - and probably apt - to describe the Valsky household as chaotic. With so many children, it couldn't be anything else. Growing up in Estium, she had lots of other kids to play with, and as puberty hit she had a crush on one in particular - a boy not much older than her.
For a time, it remained unreciprocated. He could never think of her as more than a friend, she thought. He was into pretty girls, girls who didn't have quite so much weight on them. Shortly before they both went off to the Academy - something that had been a bit of a dream of Aleks' since childhood - they finally took another step forward in their relationship. Arik took her into his bed, and Aleks was convinced she was in love. Their purely physical relationship continued for some time into their training at the academy.
And then Aleksandrya saw him with another woman. And another and another... the blindfold had been ripped off. She was heartbroken. She had been taken in by him completely. Unwilling to focus on her hurt, even as it migrated from hurt to hatred, she dove into her work. All the excess weight started to shed away, and by graduation she was fit and lean, and hadn't seen Arik for quite some time, much to her pleasure.
Aleks graduated near the top of her class, and while she was given the option of taking an egg, she instead chose to go to the Isle and find one of her own. Perhaps not the wisest choice for someone marked for Vigoratus, but it was a choice she made never the less. It took her a few days, but she finally came across a dragon that was perfect. Lean and graceful, she practically glimmered in the light, her silver hide catching and reflecting beautifully. It took her a day for Chezaa to let her come close enough to mend her injuries.
After bringing the dragon back, Aleks worked carefully to earn Chezaa's trust and respect, and for a time it was touch and go, with the Solanaceae more than a little stubborn. Still, the pair made progress, and entered the Vigoratus team, where they are currently working towards making Captain.

Generally Aleks does not wear armor, but at the times where it is necessary she wears this. On these times she carries a samshir as well, which, despite most of her focus being in healing and medicine, she does know how to use.

For a dragon, Chezaa's life was remarkably normal. She was raised for a time by her parents, and taught to hunt. It was out on a solo hunt that she was hurt, and unable to get away. In a part that wasn't heavily travelled, it was a human who found her first.
Specifically, it was Aleksandrya who found her. And then patched up her wing, and brought her back to the Ethaia Dragon Rider's headquarters. Bound by gratitude, that didn't necessarily mean that the young female was happy. In fact, she was decidedly displeased with the new situation. Before she had freedom and could do as she pleased. Here she was expected to stay close, to stay under control.
The pair bonded slowly, and Chezaa found a growing fondness, and then love, for the woman who had helped her. She didn't like that they were simply healers, but she accepted it, and would on occasion even lend her magical abilities to her rider's work. There are occasions even now where she tries to talk her rider into switching to another team.
